CHASQUI

Live video translationHow to translate YouTube and live streams in real time

chasqui listens to whatever your PC is playing and speaks it in your language while it plays, with the transcript in its window. There is nothing to wait for and no file to upload, so it also works on live streams.

What you need

Step by step

  1. Open chasqui. The first time, the setup window checks your key, the cable and the device switcher.
  2. Choose your language in the left box (I HEAR) and the video's language in the right box (THEY SPEAK).
  3. Pick Media mode and press START. Wait for the light to say ON ROUTE.
  4. Play the video. You hear the translation instead of the original, because the PC's sound is going through the cable.
  5. When you finish, press STOP or close the window. chasqui puts your Windows output back.

What it costs

What you watchCost
10 minute video$0.51
1 hour stream$3.06

That is $0.051 a minute, billed by OpenAI to your own key. There is no subscription, and the window shows the running total.

What to expect

If subtitles are enough and the video has captions, YouTube's own auto-translate is free. chasqui is for when you want to listen, or when the stream is live and has none.
